ScholarshipEach year, the Queen of the Lakes and two Aquatennial Princesses are chosen to represent the festival and city of Minneapolis all over the state, nation and world. Fifty young women representing communities throughout the state of Minnesota participate in this once-in-a-lifetime program.
AlumniThe Aquatennial have a rich history of Ambassadors who have represented the festival. From Minnesota’s top business leaders, media stars and people who have a great passion for the Aquatennial, these are the people who have made the festival what it is today.
As an Ambassador, the Commodore, Queen of the Lakes, Captains, Aquatennial Princesses and Senior Ambassadors travel throughout the state and region representing the city of Minneapolis at over 300 appearances annually. The Queen of the Lakes began in 1940 and in 1952 Aquatennial Princesses were added to ambassadors. The Senior Ambassador program began in 1979. The Queen of the Lakes has historically visited other festivals throughout the U.S. and the World and is known as one of the most traveled Queens in the United States. At the end of their year of service as an ambassador of the festival, the Queen and Princesses receive educational scholarships.
