The Aquatennial Ambassadors represent the Minneapolis Festival throughout the state, region and nation. Each year the Ambassador family consists of the Queen of the Lakes, Commodore two Aquatennial Princesses, two Captains, the Senior Queen, Senior Commodore, Senior Princess and Senior Vice-Commodore.
Aquatennial Queen of the Lakes
Each year a young women is chosen to represent the Aquatennial as the Queen of the Lakes. The Queen of the Lakes serves as an ambassador throughout the state, nation and world. The Queen of the Lakes is also chosen out of a candidate pool of former community ambassadors throughout the state. The candidates participate in the Queen of the Lakes Scholarship Program, a week-long candidate program that includes multiple judging sessions, Alumni events and activities sponsored by local businesses. At the end of her time as an ambassador, the Queen is given a scholarship to continue her education.
Aquatennial Commodore
The Commodore to serves a one-year term as an ambassador throughout the state, nation and world. The Commodore is the primary spokesperson for the AAO and is responsible for escorting the Queen of the Lakes and representing and promoting the festival by appearing at public functions. The alumni association for the Commodores is called the Admirals and the group consists of former Commodores, Presidents and General Festival Chairs.
Aquatennial Princess
Each year 2 young women are chosen to represent the Aquatennial as Princesses. The Princesses serve as ambassadors throughout the state and region. The Princesses are chosen out of a candidate pool of former community ambassadors throughout the state. The candidates participate in the Queen of the Lakes Scholarship Program, a week-long candidate program that includes multiple judging sessions, Alumni events and activities sponsored by local businesses. At the end of their time as ambassadors, the Princesses are given a scholarship to continue their education.
Aquatennial Captain
The Aquatennial has 2 captains to serve a one-year term as ambassadors throughout the state and the region. The Captain(s) is (are) responsible for escorting the Princesses, and in the absence of the Commodore, the Queen of the Lakes. The Captain(s) are chosen by a nomination committee. The Commanders are the alumni organization for the Captain and the group consists of former Captains and Vice-Commodores.
Senior Ambassadors
The Senior Ambassadors consist of a Senior Queen, Senior Commodore, Senior Princess and Senior Vice-Commodore. The Senior Ambassadors travel locally and regionally to make appearances at festivals and community events. All four ambassadors are chosen by judges and crowned at the Senior Ambassador Coronation during Aquatennial week.
