Second Quarter Newsletter

Greetings to all Minneapolis Aquatennial Ambassador Organization members, alumni, and supporters! I’m hoping all of you had a nice spring.

We are now 47 days away from Aqua Magic Week, “The Best Days of Summer!”

All of the Vice Commodores have been working tirelessly on their duties to make this year’s event really special.

In mid-winter, we had a few changes in our structure. Cindy Shanley stepped up to be our Candidate Chair and has done a remarkable job in her duties. She has added Jennifer Grant as an Orientation Coordinator and Kelly Karwoski Reykdal to co-chair the Coronation. This year, the Coronation will be back at the Ted Mann Concert Hall on the U of M campus.

A good friend of mine, Joe Johnston, has stepped up to help out in many areas in planning this year’s event. Coming off a busy two years as Prime for Winter Carnival, Joe is full of ideas working closely with the Downtown Council and proving much needed support.

Our candidate count this year is 37 young women from around the state of Minnesota. We are experiencing a few less candidates than normal due to two things: the first is that many communities did not have festivals over the past two years due to Covid; the second reason is that festivals are struggling to maintain their festivals in out-state Minnesota and all over the country.

Nevertheless, we are excited to have 29 Visiting Dignitaries this year for our event. They include Winnipeg, San Antonio, Lacrosse, South Dakota, and, of course, our friends from the Winter Carnival.

Our Ambassador Team has had a busy travel schedule in the past six months, including trips to the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, CA, the Cherry Blossom Festival in Macon, GA, and a trip to San Antonio, TX. The team is led by our Commodore Brent LaSalle and Captains Paulette Christopher and Amy Mauzy. Our Queen of the Lakes Erika Tillman along with Princesses Hannah Rodgers and Ariana Velishek have done a great job representing the Minneapolis Aquatennial Ambassador Organization!

Festival planning is still underway with many meetings, phone calls, emails, and texts. We are all excited to bring you the 2022 Aqua Magic Week! We look forward to seeing you all. Please come and enjoy one of the many events!
