As of late, there have been questions about the purpose of the Aquatennial Ambassador Organization (AAO) and what benefits there are to the Ambassadors. First, most, and always, the purpose of the AAO is to mentor young women to strive to be leaders in their chosen profession and community in the future. This is not a beauty contest as it was treated in the distant past! Being selected as an Ambassador is a job for a year and it is governed by a contract that each member must sign prior to assuming that role. After all, they represent Minneapolis and the great state of Minnesota regionally, nationally, and internationally. They are the face of our state.
