Faces of AAO: Emily Kegley

Emily Kegley (nee: McConkey) is the new Appearances Coordinator for the Ambassador Team, and an ambassador alumna! Emily served as an Aquatennial Princess in 2009.

Which community/festival were you from?

Cokato

What is one of your favorite memories of being an Ambassador?

I always loved seeing the reactions of the recipients of the Honorary Commodore Award. It was always given to volunteers who were not expecting it at all, and I loved watching them come up to the stage. They all had such pride for their community, and it was an honor to be able to place that pin on them.

What are your hopes for the Aquatennial/AAO?

I have noticed these past few years as I have helped chaperone and become more involved with Aquatennial that three characteristics have been promoted: volunteerism, community, and leadership. I love that these are so strongly promoted during candidate week because each young woman that comes through the program learns so much during that week - whether or not they go on to represent Minneapolis. These traits then continue to be promoted at their schools, jobs, and throughout their communities!

Emily has chaperoned three times during candidate week. Emily lives in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, with her husband, Bryan, and their daughter, Annie. She is a high school math teacher.
